Experience an epic saga in the realm of Orsterra
OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is a role-playing game for PC and consoles. Developed by Square Enix, the game is a 2D narrative-driven journey that takes place in the beautiful realm of Orsterra. For the first time ever, players can create their very own character to venture forth into this grand saga.
OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is an innovative entry in the series. It comes with new features that fully immerse the player in the world. One worth mentioning is the Town Building system, where you can rebuild your home town and invite those that you meet in your travels to move in.
A zero-to-hero story
Unlike the previous entries, OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 allows you to create your own protagonist to go through the story. The character customization is quite in-depth, and you can edit their appearance, voice, motions, and even their favorite dish. Afterward, you can journey toward the world and meet powerful allies that you can recruit to your party. There are a total of 30 allies to choose from.
Path Actions make their glorious return in the game. They are basically choices in how you interact with the people you meet in the world. Path Actions are a great way to gather intel and other key information from NPCs. However, keep in mind that stats heavily influence the success rate of your chosen actions. It’s always wise to pick an action that perfectly matches your strengths.
Where the game falls short is its very weak plot. The story doesn’t have that impact like with previous Octopath Traveler games. The characters have poor development as well, and you don’t feel like they grow with you throughout your travels. Another downside to point out is its poor audio quality. Every sound that you hear in the game doesn’t feel balanced and seems slightly tuned out.
An innovative entry in the beloved series
Overall, OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 shines with its new features, specifically the Town Building system. Rebuilding Wishvale has been praised as being the best part of the game. However, the series has been known for its engaging narrative, and it’s sad to say that they failed to deliver the same quality in that department. It still has the identity of being an Octopath Traveler game, but with some slight mishaps.
